Project DIALOG

Investigating interaction and communication in discovery and research in nursery schools as part of the 'KiQ' pilot program

The DIALOG project accompanies a 1.5-year training programme on the implementation of discovery and inquiry-based learning for early childhood educators. Various methods (e.g. video observations and smartphone-based surveys) will be used to investigate the interaction and communication between the actors and the conditions for successful implementation of the programme content.

Interactions between children and adults as well as with the spatial and material environment play a central role in everyday discovery and research. With this focus, the DIALOG study accompanies the 1.5-year model phase of the KiQ day care programme: When discovery and research become part of everyday life’ (2020-2022) of the non-profit foundation ‘Haus der kleinen Forscher’.
The DIALOG study examines how participation in the ‘KiQ’ model programme changes the interaction and communication between educators and children in day-care practice and promotes exploratory and inquiry-based learning. In addition, the study examines the conditions required in the early childhood centre, its management and the educational staff to promote the successful transfer of the learning content of the KiQ programme into the everyday life of the early childhood centre. Various methods, such as video observations and smartphone-based surveys, will be used to capture important aspects of the implementation of the KiQ model programme in day-care centres. The results of the study will help the “Haus der kleinen Forscher” foundation to develop its programmes even more tailor-made and needs-oriented in the future.
