Project ExFunKi

Executive functions in kindergarten

The ExFunKi project aims to improve the diagnosis of executive functions in preschool children.

The aim of the ExFunKi project is to adapt, standardise and validate a computerised test battery for the assessment of executive functions (EF) at the age of 3-5 years from the American test battery. The test battery and norms will be made freely available.
Executive functions are control processes that are necessary for adaptive and goal-directed behaviour in new, unfamiliar situations. They are an important prerequisite for the successful completion of various developmental tasks at preschool and school age. Deficits in executive function can, for example, lead to ADHD or poor academic performance. Diagnosing executive function in preschool children is difficult because it usually involves behavioural observations, which are time-consuming and underpowered. One solution would be to develop a computerised test battery to assess executive functions at preschool age. The aim of the ExFunKi project is to adapt, standardise and validate such a battery from the American test battery.
