Project KoaLa
SchuMaS is working with 200 partner schools across Germany to develop measures to improve the learning conditions and performance of pupils in socially disadvantaged schools. In this context, KoaLa is developing a training module in which teachers work together on cognitively activating teaching concepts. Cooperative and collaborative learning will be tested and reflected upon as a promising method of activating teaching.
By developing and offering this training module, we aim not only to support teaching and learning practice in the participating schools. We also want to gain a better understanding of the extent to which cognitively activating and cooperative or collaborative learning opportunities are provided in practice. This includes the question of what knowledge, ideas and attitudes teachers have about these topics and what obstacles and potentials they experience in everyday teaching when they offer cognitively activating lessons – especially in group work. The impact of cooperative learning on pupils will also be explored, particularly with regard to how pupils’ different (e.g. linguistic) learning needs affect learning in small groups.
We work with teachers to research and design cognitive activating and collaborative learning programmes. The overall aim of the programme is to improve the learning conditions and learning outcomes of children in socially disadvantaged schools.
