Project PROM3THEUS

Practical Orientation, Methodology and Theory in Educational Research

This collaborative project will design and implement a series of events for early career researchers in empirical educational research. The three planned interdisciplinary conferences on the triad of theory, methodology and practice transfer will be complemented by a peer and mentoring programme.

Empirical educational research is understood as a research landscape that demands interdisciplinarity in scientific work and at the same time produces it through different approaches to the object of research. It is therefore particularly challenging for researchers in the early stages of their careers to orient themselves and position themselves in the research field. The PROM3THEUS project therefore aims to address the core aspects of scientific work – theory development, methodological choices and practical links – from an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspective. This will take place in three consecutive or partially interlinked conferences, including accompanying advisory and mentoring phases. The concept is based on the targeted use of different research approaches and specialisations in the disciplines (subject didactics, educational science, psychology, sociology) and research topics (school, university, teaching processes, out-of-school learning environments, etc.) in order to sharpen the long-term profile of researchers in the early stages of their careers at the RHEIN-MAIN UNIVERSITIES (RMU) and beyond. The project team can be contacted at prom3theus@dipf.de.

The overall aim is to support early career researchers through interdisciplinary events, peer advisory groups and a mentoring programme. The focus is on critical and reflective discourse between academics and experts on different assumptions and perspectives in quantitative and qualitative research. The aim is to enable a complementary view of different scientific-theoretical positions in the field of research beyond a paradigmatic dispute.
