Project PROMPT

Optimising self-regulated learning processes using digital prompting techniques

The PROMPT project is developing an evidence-based, child-friendly prototype of a learning planner application to support students in self-regulated learning with digital media. The final version of the prototype will be made freely available for widespread use.

Digital learning environments place high demands on learners’ self-regulation skills, which children are often developmentally unable to meet. The PROMPT project aims to research and develop tools to improve self-regulated learning in digital learning environments for school children. The knowledge generated by the project will be made as widely available as possible so that companies in the education industry and educational institutions can use it for new products or to improve existing applications. A central aspect of this knowledge transfer will be a prototype of a child-friendly learning planning application. This prototype will implement and illustrate the scientific findings that are important for improving self-regulated learning with learning apps for school children. The project will involve detailed, multi-stage optimisation research to make the learning planner app as effective as possible. Finally, the final version of the prototype will be prepared for broad usability and accessibility for companies and educational institutions, and will be distributed as an open educational resource. In this way, the PROMPT project aims to make a direct contribution to supporting children’s self-regulation in digital learning environments.

The central aim of the project is to research and develop tools to improve self-regulated learning in digital learning environments for school children. The knowledge gained will be made as widely available as possible so that it can be used directly by educational institutions and companies in the education sector. A central aspect of this knowledge transfer is the prototype of a child-friendly learning planner application.
