Project SEM
Subject-integrated language support for mathematics learning and emotion regulation at the transition from pre-school to primary school
The SEM project, funded within the framework of the BMBF funding guideline ‘Language Education in the Immigration Society’, aims to develop, test and research a concept for language support in pre-primary classes. The project includes subject-integrated language support in the development of mathematical precursor skills in conjunction with the promotion of emotional understanding and emotion regulation, as well as a language support related professionalisation programme for teachers working in pre-school classes.
The research interest of the SEM project focuses on the development, testing and research of a concept for language support in preschool classes in order to reduce barriers to participation due to linguistic, mathematical and/or emotional developmental delays. The concept consists of three interrelated components: (1) subject-integrated language support in the development of mathematical precursor skills, (2) language support combined with the promotion of emotional understanding and regulation, and (3) a language support-related professionalisation programme for teachers and social pedagogues working in preschool classes.
The aim of the project is to gain new insights into the subject and topic-integrated promotion of language skills at the transition to primary school, which will complement existing concepts and theories and serve as a basis for the development of further scientific studies. The particular relevance of this project for the development of scientifically based concepts of language support and their research is underlined not least by the results of the IQB Education Trend 2021.
