Projekt StaLApp

Development and Research of an App for Statistical Learning in Primary School

The StarLApp project is about the research-based development and qualitative research of the pre-version of an app for statistical learning in primary schools. The app is to be designed with regard to a learning path derived from theory and encourage learners to reason with statistical data.

The StaLApp project is concerned with the development and qualitative research of the pre-version of an app for statistical learning in primary schools. The core of the app to be developed and researched is to consider the learners’ actions with the data as the starting point and to shorten the creation of diagrams only after sufficient engagement with them, so that the focus is then increasingly on recognizing correlations and arguing with statistical data. This design of the app should enable adaptive responses to children’s needs by allowing learners with mathematical difficulties to establish and practice mathematical relationships in their own actions for longer to ensure the basis of understanding for subsequent reasoning with data. Experienced learners, on the other hand, can have the app automatically generate statistical diagrams more quickly so that they can concentrate on the results of the manipulations and formulate interpretations of the diagrams. Based on the StaLApp start-up project, further research into how learners handle statistical data in such an app is to follow.
